What are the steps in a dental visit?

Dentisterie générale

The different stages of a dental consultation

The consultation with the dentist will always start with a general medical and dental questionnaire. In this way the dentist will learn more about the patient's history in order to propose the appropriate treatment. The registered dentist will then be able to create a patient's dental chart for follow-up.

Next comes :

Step 1: The oral examination. The dentist examines the mouth to detect cavities, prostheses to be made, gum problems, etc...

Step 2: This preventive oral and dental examination will be completed by a radiographic examination of the teeth in order to refine the dentist's analysis. These single or panoramic images are necessary for the practitioner to know which treatments to carry out.

Step 3: Your consultation with the dentist is also an opportunity to take care of urgent care, for example in the case of gum inflammation or a crown to be cemented or a filling to be undertaken.

Step 4: Once this oral examination is complete, your dentist will be able to propose a personalised treatment plan with a dental estimate to the patient. This may include dental care, implants, dentures and periodontal treatment. Also, the dentist will be able to advise the patient on proper tooth brushing technique, food hygiene and other recommendations.

A moment to ask questions-

During the consultation with the dentist, it is useful to ask as many questions as possible about oral health and to uncover any anxieties.

Requesting a dental estimate

During the dental consultation, you should always remember to ask for a new and very accurate dental estimate. It may take some time for the dentist to present the estimate.
